Presentation of the manual for communities on climate change adaptation

Climate change is fast becoming a huge challenge for our planet. Every year, we can all observe dramatic changes in weather conditions, sharp temperature fluctuations, heavy rains and downpours that lead to flooding and spills, and this summer's heat wave broke all temperature records. In addition to the general anthropogenic impact on the climate, we have had an extremely large impact as a result of Russian aggression against Ukraine.

According to research conducted by TOP LEAD LLC in cooperation with Gazeta Wyborcza and BIQdata https://www.topleadprojects.com/environmental-project-main, 119.1 million tons of CO2 were released into the atmosphere, and 56 thousand tons of pollutants were emitted from destroyed Russian equipment. It's like two Statues of Liberty turned to dust and released into the atmosphere.

Despite the huge scale of destruction, after the victory we want to restore Ukraine even better than it was before the war.

Therefore, when making decisions on green reconstruction at all levels, from the small community to the national level, officials and government officials at all levels should take into account the adaptation component that would ensure the future comfort of the residents of the respective communities and their living conditions in different parts of Ukraine.

Recently, experts from the NGO Ecoclub Rivne presented the manual "Adaptation to Climate Change: A Quick Guide for Communities." This manual is not intended to teach communities how to adapt to climate change, but to help authorized representatives of community executive authorities, environmental activists, and ordinary citizens understand where to start, what steps to plan and navigate, and what adaptation measures can be implemented without waiting for "free funds."

The presentation of this manual was attended by Olena Vusyk, Head of the Center for International Cooperation and Project Implementation, who was involved in its development as a reviewer. Ms. Vusyk spoke about the Czech experience in implementing climate change adaptation measures, as well as shared the experience that the Czech Republic took into account during the aftermath of the tornado that occurred in the South Moravian region of the Czech Republic in 2021 and the experience of disassembling and processing the waste of destruction.
